New Release: Matshidiso by Barorisi Ba Morena

Barorisi Ba Morena, affectionately know as the people’s choir, was established in 1965 by a group of 14 Sowetan vocalists (Soweto being a melting pot of Southern African cultures) who never received any musical education as choristers but were driven by faith, a passion and love for worship.

Free thinking and development of African congregations during the 19th and 20th centuries brought about this unique style of singing that is today popularly known as “mmino wa (the music of ) clap & tap”, also formerly known as “mmino wa Barorisi” in the 70s up to this day.

Barorisi Ba Morena are pathfinders — pioneers of this style of faith songs that fuse choral music, synchronised hand claps and multi-lingual signing. The music embodies the languages and style of a people while joyously uplifting and healing them.

After 5 years of not releasing, their latest offering promises to be another fan favourite.

The new album is titled Matshidiso (Healing) and the first single is called “Kabelo Ya Ka” (My beautiful gift). Gospel music is one of the leading genres in Africa and Barorisi Ba Morena are one of the most active choirs.
