Barorisi Ba Morena

Barorisi Ba Morena

Barorisi Ba Morena was established in 1965 by a group of 14 Sowetans who never received musical education as choristers but were driven by passion. Over the years some have passed on (may their souls rest in peace) and some live on to see the brand growing into its 3rd generation.

Ntate Jacob Tlou and others established the Clap and Tap genre and inspired choirs from all regions of South Africa. Barorisi Ba Morena formerly known as St Jacob Church choir is the first choir to achieve recording success with its first album, Dipheko Live in Church. The story is that Ntate Tlou decided that they should make it the people’s choir, and Barorisi Ba Morena was born, and later gave birth to Jerusalema Encha (under the late Ntate Seletso).

The group has among many other accolades collaborated with Hip Hop group Skwatta Kamp and made history by being the first choral group to earn a South African Music Award nomination.
